Actually, if one can excuse the fact that all the girls are retarded, helpless, moé, nerd fulfillment victims, Kanon’s not that bad. Of course, you must also forgive it for relying on magic, miracles and mystic circumstances, in other words deus ex machinae, for dragging the paper thin plot along (such as setting up characters backgrounds, resolving situations and even _causing_ said situations). It also helps to disregard the fact that it’s sole purpose is to show “sad girls in snow”. Other than that, the main male character is generally a fun guy. And the animation is pretty to look at.

In it’s defence, many of the things you mention, such as Ayu being mentally sex years old and not knowing about cellphones, or Makoto not knowing her own name, are explained in the show… although it seems probable to me that these reasons are made up to justify their “personalities” after the fact.

(And that spinning around to look at your back? “The Simpsons already did it.”)

I forgot to mention my main gripe with the show: For being a “sad girls in snow” anime, it’s damn light on the tragedy.

    “Lagaan” talk. Awesome.

    Kanon.

    Oh, jesus.
    You brave, brave men.

  • Dave

So if we can manage to forgive all TWENTY FIVE of its SHOW RUINING FLAWS THAT EVEN ONE OF WHICH WOULD MAKE ANY SHOW AWFUL AND KANON HAS ALL OF THEM AT THE SAME TIME then Kanon is an okay show?

    Riiiiiiiiiiiight.

It would seem sarcasm is not my forté. (Or communicating, at all.)

Didn’t they make 2 Lep in the Hood movies? Wow you guys are really on your game lately. I just listened to the Thanksgiving one (yes I also listened to the one after that)and it was an A+ with the Chicago songs. Thanks for continuing to bring good podcasting even though you’ve got that whole commute thing to deal with.

While this is the first time in a LONG while I’ve said anything to you guys, I felt I wanted to suggest for those who’ve don’t feel like leafing through AWO’s archive to find that episode where Clarissa rants about Kanon, I made an extract of it in a handy YTMND, complete with 7-year old Ayu doing her thing!

I’m still bugged a few guys out there wish the Kanon games would get translated (when pigs fly)!

    Take care guys!

Yo! Joel, check out the Wiki on Taiyaki! There is a preponderance of red bean paste! This show must be similar to a documentary, it is based on facts!
